James Patterson has been named president of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois.
Patterson, who has been with the foundation for 25 years, assumed the role Aug. 18, according to a community announcement.
He is the fourth president in the foundation's 72-year history.

Patterson most recently served as senior program director, where he coordinated the annual distribution of millions of dollars in grants and managed relationships with numerous organizations, nonprofit staff and community volunteers.
He was selected following a search by a hiring committee made up of members of the foundation's board of trustees with assistance from FurstExecutives.
