TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday that Tyler Shelton of Troy was sentenced to six years in state prison in a sex crime case involving a minor. Shelton, 40, pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse on July 14.

As part of his guilty plea, Shelton admitted to taking advantage of the trust of a child he was familiar with by forcing them into sexual activity. At his sentencing on August 22, he was ordered to serve 10 years of probation following his prison term.

"Thank you to the victim for her bravery in coming forward and to the Troy Police Department for their investigation," Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly stated. "As a result, the defendant will be held accountable for his predatory behavior."
