GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Road work on one of Columbia County’s busiest intersections could impact Labor Day travel ahead of the weekend.

Crews began work near the intersection of Gateway Boulevard and Horizon South Parkway on Monday.

Officials tell us they’ll be working until Friday to install the first portion of a storm drain system.

The project was set to be completed last fall, but due to weather and construction delays, the finish date continues to get pushed back.

The end goal of this project is to widen these four lanes of road and install new sidewalks from near I-20 down to Wrightsboro Road.

Even though the project will eventually bring in even more foot traffic near this construction, some business owners think the county may have mistimed their construction ahead of Lab
