Police arrested more than 420 people at Notting Hill Carnival this year but say there was “less serious violence” than other years.

The Met Police said there have so far been 423 arrests over the two-day event which concludes today, including 46 for possession of an offensive weapon.

It also reported two stabbings, neither of which resulted in life-threatening injuries.

Thousands of people lined the route in warm conditions, as the mercury soared to 26C today.

Bands and floats representing the Caribbean, African and Brazilian diaspora paraded through west London for the final day of celebrations.

So far today there has been 223 arrests, with 177 at the carnival itself and 46 on the approaches.

Police made at least 230 arrests on the final day of last year’s event.
