CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cuyahoga County prosecutors are in a race against the clock to try the case against De’Lawnte Hardy, a mentally ill defendant accused of killing Cleveland police officer Jamieson Ritter.
After Hardy was found unable to assist in his defense last September, a judge ordered him to receive treatment at a state hospital. If his mental competency is unable to be restored within a year, authorities would seek to have him committed, according to state law.
