The Fort Wayne Police Department is relaunching its Citizens Police Academy and will soon host the first program in 17 years.

The Citizens Police Academy features a hands-on look at operations, including patrol, investigations, K9 demonstrations and CSI techniques, police said Monday in a news release. Students will also participate in activities including touring police facilities, the use of police equipment and instructions on collecting crime scene evidence, the city's website says.

The free program is open to Allen County residents with no felony convictions or recent violent misdemeanors, along with no pending criminal charges.
