LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Several Jefferson County Public Schools opened the football season without a true home field, as five stadium renovation projects run behind schedule, affecting athletes, events and school budgets.

At Louisville Male High School, work that began in April goes far beyond new turf.

“It’s really not just a turf field. We’ve had bleacher renovations, we’ve had drainage work that needed to be done badly. We’re getting a new track,” said Athletic Director John Kelsey.

Kelsey said the upgrades will benefit multiple programs.

“The turf will allow us to practice every day on the field. All our kids, all our teams and also to have events on the field,” Kelsey said.

For now, Male, Doss, Fern Creek, Manual and Waggener are still waiting. The projects are part of phase two of JC
