Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis informed city council Monday the city has landed three more new doctors to help alleviate a serious doctor shortage in the municipality.

An estimated 15,000 residents in the city do not have a family physician despite a continued effort by Belleville’s Physician Recruitment Program that has drawn as many as 60 physicians to the city through signed agreements since 2007.

Ellis lauded program manager Karen Poste in council declaring, “manager of physician recruitment, that’s three today, a very good job. Thank you for that and we expect more so the bar has been set high.”

The mayor was speaking to the securing of medical agreements with Dr. Tyrelle Hunt, Dr. Kene Ilora and Dr. Ugo Uzondu.

Hunt is currently working as a fully licensed family
