NORMAN — When he first arrived at Oklahoma, John Mateer was on a mission to establish himself as a leader.

The former Washington State star strived to build relationships, teach new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle ’s offense and create a fun environment on and off the field. Mateer took it upon himself to attend an offensive line film session and put an emphasis on celebrating when the Sooners’ offense scores, something he noticed was lacking.
