LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln City Council on Monday night approved the removal and replacement of several trees on Goodhue Boulevard.
The council voted 4-1 to move forward with the Parks and Recreation Department’s plan to remove 29 trees, despite an appeal by one neighborhood resident.
An average of five to six trees a block will be torn out from A to F streets.
Supporters of the tree removal said due to their age, the trees pose a safety risk because they’re easily damaged during storms.
Parks and Rec said a few of the trees also show symptoms of fungal disease.
Some neighbors tried to stop the removal of the trees, saying they are part of that area’s identity.
