SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Utah National Guard are expected to assist ICE in deportation efforts beginning in mid-September. Details are still being hammered out, but they are expecting to assist with transportation and administration rather than arrests.

The Trump administration plans to deploy 1,700 National Guard members to help federal immigration officers. White House border czar Tom Homan said that the troops will be deployed across 19 states, including Utah.

Lt. Col. Chris Kroeber with the National Guard told ABC4.com that the request from the Trump administration is standard for them. "We do our best to support where we can," he said. "We have a requirement to support where we can, and we do our best to do that."
