About a month ago, a Blade editorial referenced the CNBC rankings of economic competitiveness of the 50 states.

Ohio was ranked No. 5 but didn’t seem to be overly successful in attracting new businesses. The rankings were based on 10 broad categories. Ohio had some positives like infrastructure but there were some serious negatives. These included work force (21st) and Quality of Life (17th). The article pointed out that many college graduates and skilled workers are leaving the state and this includes Toledo.

Despite many attractions in and around Toledo, some of the quality of life issues relate to public safety and crime. On the FBI listing of the worst crime rates of 200 cities, Toledo ranked 189. The FBI reported that the violent crime rate in the city of Toledo last year as 1,041 c
