Truist Financial Corp. has settled a proposed class-action lawsuit that claimed the bank placed “pixel trackers” on its website that collected and sold user data to third-party advertising platforms that included Facebook, Google Ads, LinkedIn, Microsoft Ads and TikTok Analytics.

Lead plaintiff John Tasker filed his complaint May 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The Aug. 13 settlement filing did not include terms.

Truist said in a statement that “we’d respectfully decline to weigh in” on the settlement.

Tasker claimed Truist’s use of pixel trackers — also known as a web beacon — violates a California law that prohibits unauthorized wiretapping and eavesdropping on private communications.

The complaint sought an order halting the use of the tracking
