The town of Thurmont is set to receive more than $500,000 by the end of the year as part of a settlement for water contamination claims from “forever chemicals” known as PFAS.
PFAS, or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are widely used chemicals that are found in water, soil and air across the world, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Some of these chemicals may be linked to harmful health outcomes, according to the agency.
