KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is on the scene where a KCK police officer has been seriously hurt.

Kansas City Kansas police spoke with KCTV5 and said the officer was hit while trying to stop a car with stop sticks, a common tool used by law enforcement in an effort to stop suspects refusing to slow down for police.

It happened right around midnight near 75th and State Avenue, just outside the Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC).

KCK Police Chief Karl Oakman told KCTV5 officers initially responded for gunshot sounds in the area. When officers arrived, they found a suspect armed inside his car. When officers attempted to approach the suspect, he is said to have taken off, beginning the pursuit with police.
