The New Orleans Saints are shaking up their quarterback room.
In a surprise move, the Saints released quarterback Jake Haener, according to a report from The NFL Network. Haener, a 2023 fourth-round pick out of Fresno State, began the summer in the mix for the starting quarterback job, but fell out of favor as the coaching staff gave more reps to Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough as training camp progressed.
Haener, 26, appeared in eight games for New Orleans. In his lone start — a Dec. 15 game against the Washington Commanders last season — Haener was benched at halftime for Rattler.
The quarterback also struggled in this year's preseason. Playing with the third unit, Haener completed 10 of his 17 passes for 78 yards and an interception.
