SAGINAW, MI — City crews cleaning up the mess at the former Saginaw County fairgrounds site may have inadvertently made purchasing the land a pricier pursuit for Saginaw City Hall, officials said.
Saginaw City Manager Tim Morales said the city continues to inch closer to inking a $20,000 purchase agreement to acquire from the Saginaw Housing Commission a one-acre slice of the property, which officials plan to transform into a public park.
The latest hurdle cleared: Permission from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the federal agency that has overseen the housing commission’s ownership of the property for two decades.
