FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Central Valley was hit with heavy storms on Tuesday as the area also deals with near triple-digit temperatures.

Much of the area started getting hit with thunder and lightning around 7:30 am. The National Weather Service in Hanford issued a Special Weather Statement for multiple areas of the Valley.

A temperature inversion, which means warm air sitting over cold, makes thunder sound super loud, which is what the Valley was experiencing.

Highway 41 was hit with heavy rain, impacting traffic and causing low visibility on the roads.

If you see lightning nearby, you are urged to seek shelter immediately.
