KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A fallen Kansas City Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty is being remembered as a dedicated individual who loved his community.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department has confirmed that Officer Hunter Simoncic, 26, has died after he was intentionally hit by the driver of a speeding vehicle early Tuesday morning, Aug. 26.

Police Chief Karl Oakman said Officer Simoncic was hit by Dennis Mitchell III, 31 , near College Pkwy. and State Ave. Initially, law enforcement had been responding to sounds of gunshots in the area. However, instead of stopping and speaking with officers, Mitchell sped off and spurred a police chase.
