WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) - West Chester Township says it might have been targeted by a “malicious hacking group.”

The township said around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, they were alerted to a possible cybersecurity breach targeting its central email server.

“At this time, we have no evidence that data has been stolen and we cannot verify the claims made by the group,” West Chester Township explained.

The same hacker group had attempted an attack on the township earlier this month but their efforts were isolated and contained.

West Chester Township officials are investigating with the help of FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center, legal counsel and cybersecurity experts.

The township said there is no evidence that data was stolen and claims by the hacking group have not been verified.
