HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The man accused of striking and killing a 54-year-old construction worker last year in Hartford has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, according to court documents.

Tommy Nguyen, who was 25 when the crash happened, claimed last year that he was having a seizure when he hit Jose Diaz-Nieves in June 2024 in the area of West Boulevard and South Whitney Street.

Diaz-Nieves was a private contractor for the Metropolitan District. Hartford police said that Nguyen was driving quickly through the construction area and also hit some equipment and a dump truck when he hit him.

Nguyen will be sentenced in October.
