SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The Emigrant Fire, driven by hot, dry, and windy conditions, has expanded to 6,000 acres, according to U.S. Forest Service officials.
The Forest Service said that a 'Red Flag' Warning is in effect today due to thunderstorms and unstable weather, increasing the likelihood of further fire growth. Firefighters are fully committed to suppressing the blaze, which began on Aug. 24 in the Middle Fork Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest. Fire crews are facing challenging conditions as they work directly along the fire's edge. Resources including ground crews, air attack, helicopters, and large equipment are on the scene. Additional support arrived yesterday with more expected.
Crews are strategically working to prevent the fire from crossing Forest Service Road
