ONTARIO, Ore. - An adult in custody at Snake River Correctional Institution (SRCI) has died, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections.

According to the Oregon Department of Corrections, Edward Lawrence Nelson passed away at a local hospital on the morning of Aug. 25. Nelson, who was 77 years old, had been incarcerated since December 17, 2013, after pleading guilty to multiple charges of aggravated murder and first-degree arson with no parole date. He was serving his sentence from Coos County.

The Oregon State Police have been notified of Nelson's death, and the State Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
