An Egg Harbor Township man was charged with vehicular homicide Tuesday because he was allegedly speeding when his vehicle struck and killed a star athlete from Pleasantville in May, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Gary Battisti, 71, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro on Delaware Avenue near Fernwood Avenue at 2:20 p.m. May 17 when a 2022 Mini Cooper driven by 19-year-old Sky Mejiadorado entered the intersection from the north, Egg Harbor Township police said at the time.

Battisti swerved to the right to avoid hitting Mejiadorado but left the road and drove onto the grass shoulder.
