Authorities say the death of a 3-year-old Harvey boy was a homicide following an autopsy performed Tuesday.
Preliminary findings determined that Josiah Winzy died of asphyxia due to suffocation and smothering, according to the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office.
The toddler was discovered dead Monday morning after Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to his apartment in the 2200 block of Manhattan Boulevard.
Authorities were dispatched to the residence about 7:40 a.m. after the boy's mother called 911 to report his death, according to Capt. Jason Rivarde, spokesperson for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrived and also found Josiah's mother suffering from several cuts on her body, and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
