Ever since she was a child, there were two things in this world Lensey Cabral always wanted to do: dentistry and help people. Now as a pre-dental student at East Carolina University, she is fulfilling both of her aspirations with her initiative, Smiles Across Sampson.

While attending an event called Preparing Tomorrow’s Dentists at the ECU School Of Dentistry, Cabral was inspired by a PowerPoint that had a magazine picture of a local farmer with bad oral hygiene. Though this was not the first time Cabral had seen this PowerPoint, it stuck with her.

“I couldn’t help but think, ‘you know, in Sampson County you don’t have to look in a magazine to see someone that needs oral hygiene care,’” Cabral said. “You can go to church or the grocery store, go to school. I just know that there’s a lot
