SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE)– The University of Rhode Island announced that they will be welcoming former Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to campus as the first speaker in their “Education, Behind the Curtains” lecture series.
Cardona served as Secretary of Education under President Joe Biden from March of 2021 through the end of his term in January. Prior to that, he served as Connecticut’s Commissioner of Education.
In his talk, Cardona is expected to speak on the challenges modern-day public schools face, and on how public education can be strengthened.
URI says that the series will focus on how history and policy shape learning, equity in the classroom and how new educational challenges, such as the use of artificial intelligence in classrooms, affect education.
