CALEDONIA, Mich. —

As temperatures fall, Michigan orchards are welcoming people to U-Pick season.

David Dutcher has owned and operated Summer Sweet Orchard in Caledonia for decades. He says the orchard has around 2,000 trees and 18 apple varieties.

“I kind of specialize in stuff that people can't get elsewhere , new modern varieties, new releases, and I still have some of the old ones, like the, you know, the Cortlands,” he said.

While their store is stocked with already picked apples, they open their U-Pick after Labor Day, around Sept. 10.

“When we get to the U pick, it's fun to see the families come out,” he said. “Everybody has a good time.”

Last year, because of the warm spring, they had to open their U-Pick three weeks early.
