CHICAGO — Mayor Brandon Johnson joined local union leaders Tuesday to announce a planned Labor Day rally against President Donald Trump and his threats to deploy the National Guard to Chicago.
The rally and march, called “Workers Over Billionaires,” is planned for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday and will start at the Haymarket Memorial, 151 N. Desplaines St.
It’s the latest effort organized by city leaders after a Washington Post report that the Pentagon has been preparing for weeks to deploy thousands of National Guard troops to Chicago as early as September.
Johnson on Tuesday repeated statements made alongside Gov. JB Pritzker outside Trump Tower Monday that local and state officials do not want the federal force in Chicago.
