GREEN BAY — Like Ted Thompson before him, Brian Gutekunst views the decisions he makes at the end of training camp not as the final cuts , but as deciding upon the initial roster .

However the current Green Bay Packers general manager and his late, great predecessor want to frame it, the bottom line is this: Gutekunst had to make 37 roster decisions — not including the release of the team’s NFL international player pathway program player, kicker Mark McNamee — to reduce the offseason 90-man roster to the NFL-mandated 53-player limit by Tuesday’s 3 p.m. deadline.

To do so, the Packers cut 31 players; placed three on the physically unable to perform list; put two on injured reserve with the designation to return during the season; and placed one on season-ending injured reserve.
