MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - There’s a new push to get more Canadians to visit Vermont’s capital city.

Communities across the Green Mountain State are seeing a drop in Canadian foot traffic as a result of a political boycott.

So Montpelier retailers are creating a coupon book with discounts at their businesses for our neighbors to the north.

It’s in an effort to mend a fractured relationship and make Canadians feel welcome in Vermont.

“We enjoy our relationship with Quebec and with Canadians, and we want to cultivate that and see visitors return here,” said Katie Trautz, the executive director of Montpelier Alive.

The coupon books will be distributed in areas like St. Albans, Newport and parts of Quebec.

The push for more foot traffic in Montpelier also comes as a monthslong construction
