PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) - Women’s Equality Day is celebrated on Aug. 26; it’s the anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment .

But organizers with the League of Women Voters in New York’s North Country say women’s right to vote is still under threat.

Suzy Johnson, the league’s vice president, says they declared a constitutional crisis back in April because of recently passed legislation in the House known as the SAVE Act .

The legislation would require people to bring a valid birth certificate or passport, in person, if they are registering to vote.

Johnson says the legislation usurps states’ authority to administer elections and could set voting rights back by decades.
