BLUFFTON — Law enforcement officials are warning people to steer clear of the Target at 1050 Fording Island Road following the report of a possible explosive device outside a CVS Pharmacy in the retail store.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the threat.
A news release issued just before 4 p.m. Aug. 26 stated that there will be an increased law enforcement presence in the area as deputies respond.
Law enforcement’s response was prompted by a 911 caller, who said that there was a pipe bomb in the area, according Sheriff’s office Sgt. Danny Allen.
Authorities will be searching the Target and surrounding stores, Allen said. No explosive devices have so far, he said.
Dogs are sniffing for a potential device, said Bluffton Police Chief Joe Babkiewicz.
