MARYLAND (DC News Now) -- A Bethesda doctor was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison after she was found guilty of distributing controlled substances.

The U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) for the District of Maryland said in a news release that 48-year-old Anissa Maroof of Potomac, Md. gave patients from West Virginia prescriptions for controlled substances, sometimes prescribing dangerous combinations and not informing patients of the risks.

The USAO said that Maroof also continued to prescribe these substances to patients who had indicated that they were selling their excess through illicit channels.
