WASHINGTON — The District is launching a pilot driver education program at four area high schools.
The program will be launched on Sept. 22 at Coolidge High School, Eastern High School, Jackson Reed High School, and Phelps High School.
Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the program is specifically designed to teach kids how to navigate the District’s “multi-modal environment,” and it will prioritize enrolling students who are in career and technical education courses, where driving may figure strongly in their career.
In addition to learning the rules of the road, students will learn how to share it with pedestrians, cyclists, buses, and other modes of transportation.
