ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI - A semi-truck struck an overpass bridge on U.S. 131 mid-afternoon Tuesday, temporarily shutting down part of the southbound freeway.
According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, the truck was headed south close to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, when it crashed into the overpass near the 70-mile marker and 146th Avenue.
Because of the extent of the damage and debris in the roadway, southbound U.S. 131 was closed and traffic was being diverted to 76th Street.
By late afternoon, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office shared information about the crash response, advising drivers that all U.S. 131 ramps would be closed between 76th and 146th.
Drivers were also encouraged to use Clyde Park or South Division avenues to avoid the closure.
