THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A network of cameras is set up around the city, but officials say some areas of the Bronx need more coverage.
Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson announced funding for new cameras on Tuesday with city agencies and law enforcement.
They say the camera will help public safety on several crime-fighting fronts.
Illegal dumping is in focus as complaints have increased. Some parks and other areas will benefit from the cameras, says the NYPD.
Borough President Gibson has a list of areas to address, including traffic corridors, empty lots, parks, and open space.
“We believe cameras are a deterrent to illegal dumping, and it’s a silent witness. Clean streets are safe streets," Borough President Gibson said.
