NEWTON, Kan. (KSNW) — The Harvey County Commission voted Tuesday to purchase a downtown Newton building to help meet the county’s space needs.

The county is buying the property at 109/111 E. Seventh St. — located just south of the Harvey County Courthouse — for $100,000. The building previously housed law offices.

County officials said the Seventh Street location will provide temporary office space while renovations are made inside the courthouse. In the long term, the property gives the county more flexibility as it looks at future space needs for county departments and the Ninth Judicial District.

Closing on the building is expected in mid-September.
