A Calgary police officer has been charged with theft and fraud following an investigation into alleged criminal activity. Constable Bradley Tepper, a 52-year-old veteran of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) with 20 years of service, was relieved of his duties on Tuesday.
The CPS reported that it received a complaint earlier this month regarding fraudulent activities and multiple thefts from hardware stores in Calgary and its surrounding areas. According to the police, more than $10,000 worth of items were allegedly stolen over a 12-month period.
After conducting an investigation, the CPS identified Tepper as the suspect. He has been charged with one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of fraud over $5,000.
Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan addressed the situation, stating, "When a criminal investigation involves one of our own members, it has the potential to undermine trust and confidence in our service. Our responsibility to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation is integral to upholding our principles of accountability and integrity."
Tepper is scheduled to appear in court on September 24. The case has raised concerns about the integrity of the police force, as investigations involving officers can impact public trust.
