SHERMAN, Conn. (WTNH) — All public islands on Candlewood Lake will close starting Friday due to public health and safety concerns, the Candlewood Lake Authority announced on Tuesday.

The organization cited unsustainable misuse and overcrowding on the lake's islands as a reason for the closure.

The the Candlewood Lake Authority Marine Patrol, DEEP EnCon police and local police departments will enforce the closures.

People who disobey the closure of the islands will be subject to removal, trespassing and other fines deemed appropriate, according to the organization.

It is unclear how long the closures will last.
