CLARKSVILLE, Ind. — In Origin Park , the River Heritage Conservancy controls roughly 380 acres of land. Its flagship project is planned here, to the east of Silver Creek. Wildwater will be a winding kayak and whitewater rafting course over 3,000 feet long.
The bugs sing here now, but this knob overlooking the Ohio River in Clark County was once an old landfill.
"What's exciting is you're taking land that is just gonna have to sit here like this. You're talking 35, 40 acres here. Now, we're gonna put it to use and it'll be a revenue source for the park," Vern Eswine, the conservancy's spokesman, said Tuesday.
The Olympic-grade course, he explained, is key in funding the park's preservation and expansion.
