LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife says it has ‘humanely euthanized’ 22 deer being kept at a Meade County wildlife facility.

The department said the animals were illegally being held at the unpermitted Broadbent Wildlife Sanctuary in violation of state regulations designed to prevent the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease.

The action came with the cooperation of the sanctuary’s new operators, following the discovery that the previous operate had accepted deer from Meade, Breckinridge and Hardin counties that were added to Kentucky’s CWD Surveillance Zone. Regulations prohibited rehabilitation in those areas since Oct. 2024.
