RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) -
The Allianz Richmond Marathon sold out earlier than ever before this year, which shows the popularity of the race and a growing running scene in the River City.
Even with the high demand, race organizers say they cannot increase capacity this year due to logistics.
“We want to make sure that we provide the top shelf experience for people, and so we have some capacity limits on courses and on the finished festival, and so we don’t want to overcrowd it and make it a bad experience for people, so the limit is set at the same numbers it was last year,” Meghan Keough, Race Director, said.
It is the second year in a row the marathon sold out, though last year when it happened it was just days before the race.
