Ponchatoula teen Katelynn Strate died Tuesday evening, three days after she was shot in the head while seven months pregnant in what authorities described as a road rage attack.
Strate, 17, was critically wounded in the Sunday morning shooting but kept on life support to save her baby, longtime family friend Katie Cancienne said. She delivered a healthy baby girl via an emergency C-section about a half hour after the attack.
She was taken off life support following an organ donation ceremony, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said.
Strate and her boyfriend were headed to his mom's house the morning she was shot, according to Cancienne, riding together on North Hoover Road in a Ford Expedition.
