Highland Park -- A woman in her 50s was fatally injured this morning after she fell or jumped from a parkway overpass in Highland Park and struck a passing car.

About 10:20 a.m., authorities were alerted to a woman dangling from the Avenue 60 overpass of the Arroyo Seco Parkway (110 Freeway), according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

She then fell or jumped, hitting a vehicle and was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz, who said the woman was about 55 years old.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, Lantz said.

All northbound lanes of the parkway were closed between Avenue 52 and Avenue 60 after the incident.

One lane was reopened about 11 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
