The Hamtramck City Council took steps Tuesday to fire three city employees who were the subject of a recently released investigative report over allegations of corruption and poor judgment.

Following about an 85-minute closed session, the council voted 5-0 to fire suspended City Manager Max Garbarino. Without voting, council also directed the acting city manager to terminate the employment of Police Chief Jamiel Altaheri and Officer David Adamczyk.

Council member Khalil Refai abstained from the vote.

Officials explained that based on the city's agreement with the police union, it could not directly fire Altaheri and Adamczyk, but City Attorney Odey Meroueh pledged that "both will end up terminated."
