BOISE, Idaho — The Nampa Police Department warned the public Tuesday after scammers began targeting domestic violence victims.

Scammers are calling recent domestic violence victims, posing as law enforcement officers and demanding $500 payments for a suspect's jail bond, ankle monitoring system and participation in a "Second Chance Program," according to Nampa Police .

"That call is a scam," officials said in the warning issued Tuesday.

Nampa Police said that in one local case, the scammer knew both the victim's and suspect's names and requested payment through Venmo, a mobile payment service. Authorities believe scammers obtain the names through public records searches or by monitoring court arraignments.
