BEMIDJI, Minn. (Northern News Now) - A Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Tuesday after a suspect in a stolen vehicle crashed head-on with their squad.

The sheriff’s office says the pursuit began after a deputy was conducting a follow-up to an investigation into a stolen vehicle Tuesday morning.

When authorities attempted to make a traffic stop of the vehicle, the driver fled.

The pursuit continued until the driver collided with the deputy’s squad.

The deputy was treated at a local hospital and released.

The alleged 26-year-old driver was transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries and remains in custody facing charges.
