MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The City of Fitchburg Police Department is moving forward on getting a new facility. The Common Council voted Tuesday, to approve a construction bid for the project.
Proposals for the new build were rejected last year.
The city’s police department currently shares the City Hall building. City officials said space is a major issue and they plan to build a stand-alone police department.
The new facility is expected to be about 35,000 square- feet larger than the current space.
Mayor Julia Arata-Fratta said she is happy to see the project is expected to be $10 million less that was budgeted for.
