The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Phoenix area through 9:45 p.m. Aug. 26.

Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees with 60 mph wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Phoenix, Tolleson, and Laveen. This includes the following highways: Interstate 10 between mile markers 135 and 143; Interstate 17 between mile markers 198 and 200; U.S. 60 between mile markers 158 and 159.

Tips for driving in the rain

The Arizona Department of Transportation provided the following safety tips for driving in the rain :

Inspect windshield wipers and replace them if necessary prior to expected rainfall.

Turn on the headlights.

Reduce speeds.
